The Great British Fake Off

Mary Berry may have left the building but I’m about to enter it! Ok, so I’m definitely not Mary! I’m 32 years young with only an ample amount of grey hairs. I absolutely wing it when it comes to baking and being from the Forest of Dean I don’t quite have the accent or etiquette that Mrs Berry graces us with! My husband asked me to bake him a cake just over a year ago and while I’m what people would probably refer to as ‘the modern woman’, I was on maternity leave with a bit of time to spare, so thought I’d give it a go. Before anyone jumps on the spare time thing, I would just like to clarify that I birthed a 9Ib 5oz adventurous, fearless, curious, beautiful son...spare time is rare! Anyway, I baked that cake. I’m not afraid to say I googled “Mary Berry Victoria Sponge” and followed it to the letter. Since then I haven’t been able to stop. Another thing I haven’t been able to stop is Slimming World. How on earth is Mary so slim? Clearly she doesn’t listen to Gordon Ramsay when he’s shouting and spitting “TASTE EVERYTHING”. I personally like to take the advice from all of the greats. Now I take orders for cakes but what you’ll soon discover from my blogs is I like to be busy. So aside from baking cakes, working a full time job over 3 days, studying, raising a wild child and helping out friends and family...I’m setting myself a new challenge. Before my husband gets excited, I can confirm I am definitely not going back to ironing! I am going to take part in the Great British Bake Off. No, I haven’t got on the show, as you’ll establish when watching tomorrow night. But one can dream. The only way for me to get better at baking is to practice, so I’m going to give the Technical a whirl every week. I’ll set the scene now to save you time, my blogs will be about baking, children, work and life in general! So, if you’re easily offended or uninterested in the above I probably wouldn’t subscribe. But while I have got your attention, I’ll just do a little plug for my cake making skills. If you’re ever in need of a cake, I make a mean sponge that Mary herself would be proud of! #beckyturnersbakedtreats
